They are the Same. Almost.
The surprising similarities between the Woke and Islamic religions, and one critical difference.
If you are looking for it, you can run across a lot of very well informed and intelligent people discussing the odd alliance between modern Leftism and Islam. Sometimes it is called the “Red-Green Alliance.” It is a topic worthy of reflection for a few reasons.
First, there are a couple of moral issues at the center of each that contradict the other, specifically the acceptance or rejection of the LGBTQ agenda. It is a contradiction, but there is a really good explanation for why that isn’t a roadblock to their seeming alliance. More on that later.
The second reason we should understand this alliance is because it may be the most powerful and significant opposition to Christianity, reason, and civilization. That’s a big deal for everyone.
First, a few reasons why they seem to be on the same page.
Hatred for the West.
The fuel that fills the engine of Islam is hatred for everything Jewish and Christian. For 1400 years now, Islam has waged jihad against the “Saturday People” and “Sunday People.” The history of the spread of the religion is paved in the blood of untold numbers of infidels. The core of Islam still carries with it deep antipathy for the West and the desire to overthrow it.
Wokeism is built on its own delusional versions of history, philosophy, and economics that engender the same kind of hatred for the West. This religion also, ironically, includes hatred for two specific groups of people – Jews and Christians. There is an indoctrinated self-hatred among the acolytes of Wokeism in the West: they are the blessed beneficiaries of Christendom and biblical values, yet they have been taught to hate everything good.
Dysfunctional Views of Family
Islam practices polygamy everywhere it exists. Where it has enough power, it enshrines patriarchal polygamous laws, leaving women and children without what we would consider normal, human rights. Men beat women with impunity. Women have no real social power.
Wokeism not only treats the traditional family as colonialist and oppressive, even going so far as to call for its abolition, but it accepts polygamy. The Woke term is, “polyamory,” but it is polygamy none the less.
And despite all the hysteria about #MeToo, the Woke Left is perfectly fine with men beating women as long as they are illegal immigrants or have a politically correct skin color.
And what of “women’s rights”? Hasn’t the Left been its champion? Turns out, no. If men can “be women,” use their locker rooms, compete in their sports, and beat women to a pulp in the ring, then “women’s rights” is a veneer over naked political power games.
Sexual Debauchery
Islam is famously founded by a man who took a 9-year-old for a wife. Based on his example, Imams still defend child brides from their pulpits in the West. Ask a combat veteran about the practice of homosexuality among Muslim men in the Middle East, and they will have plenty of stories to tell. It is officially immoral in Islamic teaching, but practiced nonetheless.
Wokeism has given up on all forms of sexual morality. The acceptance of pan-sexuality is hard-wired into their ideology. In the early 20th century, the pioneers of the modern Left argued that the best way to find freedom from puritanical Christianity was to remove every sexual taboo, including age.
The Woke Left has become perfectly comfortable with pedophilia, renaming it a protected act of “Minor Attracted Persons.” (Notice the Woke penchant for renaming abhorrent behaviors to make them sound attractive.)
No woman or child is safe from either religion.
Both are Fundamentally Destructive
The philosopher David Berlinski has remarked that a man who could not build a chicken coop can nonetheless destroy a chateau. This describes both ideologies. Neither builds, but both rely on the vestiges of the civilizations they have infested.
Ideologies that build need people who agree on several basic principles – the building blocks of civilization. When you destroy, any tool will do. Islam and Wokeism will get along until they both get their way.
Demonic
In my view, both religions are demonically inspired. One arose from the sands of the Middle East to kill as many Jews and Christians as possible The other arose in Europe and the West to destroy the civilization built by Jews and Christians.
So, it would be reasonable to believe they will align at every juncture possible. We are, after all, in a spiritual battle. The conflict we see is paltry compared to the conflict we cannot see.
So, what about the Woke acceptance of LGBT issues, the Trans agenda, and things like Drag Queen Shows? Why isn’t this enough to create a rift between the two?
The Difference: Wokeism is Weak
Islam has relied on aggression, both overt and not-so-overt, and having large families to undermine the West. Most Muslims are devoted to the totalizing claims made by their faith, and this is something the Left cannot understand.
Wokeism has no moral or intellectual core worth defending. Their Overton Window constantly moving to the left, so there are no real principles worth building upon. As soon as the next leftward step is taken by enough “important people,” they all follow. A belief someone said was “impossible” 6 months ago becomes the new standard of “being in.” (See “Minor Attracted Persons” above.)
As a result, Islam will use the Woke as long as they are useful. Somali “day care centers” will use Minnesota politicians to extort billions of dollars and send that money to terrorists in Somalia to kill as many people as possible as long as they can. Leftist politicians think they are being sensitive to Somali Muslims, when in reality, they are just being useful idiots.
The Ouroboros is the ancient image and story of the snake that eats its own tail. Some take it to be a symbol of eternity and rebirth. It is more simply an image of an ideology that consumes and destroys itself. Can we now draw pictures of a Double Ouroboros? Two snakes eating each other’s tails?
There is a way out of this destructive and demonic cycle. Jesus Christ came to give life and give it more abundantly (John 10:10). This means you, as a person made in the image of God, can be saved from your sin and put in right relationship with the King of the Cosmos.
It also means Christ gives life to a civilization grounded on the principles and truths revealed in Scripture.
Reject ideologies that treat Christ as just a man and Christians as fools and infidels. Reject ideologies that lead with hate, drive the machinery of their worldview on hate, and end in hate. Find Christ, the Savior who loves you and who died and rose again for you. Find Christ the Victor, the King of kings, and the One to whom all creation is headed.
The nations rage and the people plot in vain. God in heaven laughs and puts his Son on the throne anyway (Psalm 2).
