Should Western civilization survive the onslaught it is facing right now, our progeny will look back on aspects of this era with a mixture of befuddlement and disgust. You and I might look back in time and wonder, who thought foot-binding was a good idea? Did the leeches really work?
They will look back and wonder, who ever thought that men could become women, or that we should mutilate and sterilize children to coddle their confused feelings or their emotionally disturbed mothers?
Turns out there is an answer to “who did that?” It is a clear and universal answer, with obvious villains, dupes, and propagandists who made the previously unimaginable common place.
History sometimes clears up questions we don’t know the answer to in the present, but sometimes history shows us who had the courage to see and point out obvious falsehoods when their zeitgeist was all in favor of the falsehood. We learn that some people paid the price for speaking truth while others hedged their bets and played the fence.
A bill making its way through the Colorado State Legislature is one of these moments. HB 25-1312 is a monstrosity of immorality, irrationality, and unconstitutionality. As Joe Carter explains in his piece at TGC:
Many Coloradans may not realize how this legislation creates a two-tiered legal system. Parents who hold to the traditional Christian understanding of gender could face intervention by the state without any evidence of actual abuse or neglect. All that’s necessary is evidence that they didn’t verbally affirm their child’s self-declared gender identity.
Even more concerning is the bill’s interstate implications. It explicitly prohibits Colorado courts from enforcing laws from other states that would remove a child from a parent who provides “gender-affirming care.” This effectively transforms Colorado into a legal sanctuary where one parent could pursue the medicalization of a child against the other parent’s wishes.
Colorado’s bill effectively criminalizes biblical parenting while creating a legal sanctuary for those seeking to circumvent other states’ protective measures.
The bill created a groundswell so significant, it spurred a website created by pastors for pastors and churches in Colorado: fight1312.com. Soon, there was a small army of Christians, pastors, and reasonable people actively opposing the bill, including holding a rally at the State Capitol. The opposition found traction in national media, and as of this writing, the bill is stalled in committee.
But back to the original hypothetical question asked by our grandchildren: who thought this evil was a good idea?
The answer is simple: Democrats. So far, every R has voted against it and every D has voted for it. More broadly, the political and theological Left are either all for it or silent about it. The Left/Democrats are pushing this bill, but not everyone has the gumption to name them.
The article cited above leaves the reader in the dark as to who did this. Reading it you might think it simply emerged from the ether, fully formed. It did not. Democrats and the Left wrote it and are vigorously defending it. Progressive Christians are ignoring it or acting as dupes for it.
When it came time for Israel to chose between Baal and the Lord their God, Elijah called out Baal’s prophets, demonstrated their weakness, then killed every last one of them. Jeremiah confronted false prophets, called out their lovely lies, and was proved right every time. I can’t think of a single faithful prophet in Scripture who stood at the crossroads and shouted, “We don’t know who is sinning!”
It is important to point fingers when God-opposing and reality-denying issues present themselves. We can’t get lost in a wash of winsomeness and wait for the next generation’s historians to tell us who did this. We need to have the eyes and the guts to name them. If bad ideas are going to be opposed and corrected, we need to know who promotes them and why. We need to know who is willing to stand in the gap here and now. We even need to know who does not yet have the wherewithal to stand up, so we can help give them the courage to do so.
Courage is catchy.
Your article is bold and clear. I applaud you for shining light on this vile DEMONcRAT beast devouring our children--distorting, and dismantling truth--disfiguring their perceptions into nonsensical fantasies void of who they are. While at the same time rendering parents impotent--powerless. The Democrats have done this! Yes! Thank you for saying it outright--And... the progressive leaning leftist pulpits are guilty.
It's time to call it like it is!
Yaaaay for parents in Colorado fighting this venomous dragon and stalling a devastating bill.
If we don't stand up, what happens next? At some point Christians need to stand up for Biblical principles in society and law. Without it, we're doomed to the ash heap of history.
